This is What “Too Far” Looks Like.

Posted on

Yesterday, Donald Trump said something that I’m sure his supporters will be defending for months. Some will say he was joking. Some will say his words were taken out of context. And some will say he meant something other than what he actually said.

And they’ll all be wrong.

They’ll be wrong factually and they’ll be wrong ethically.

Because nobody should defend what Trump said yesterday. His comment should be condemned by democrats, republicans, libertarians, green party members, and independents.

It should be condemned by Trump supporters, Clinton supporters, Johnson supporters, Stein supporters, and by those who aren’t voting at all.

Donald Trump’s comment should be condemned by everybody.

Before yesterday, Trump had the potential to be dangerous, but he wasn’t quite there yet.

Yesterday, he became dangerous.

Trust Has Layers.

“Do you trust Hillary Clinton?”

I’m asked this question often, and every time I’m asked, I respond with, “That’s not a ‘yes or no’ question.”

And almost every time I give that answer, the person who asked the question assumes I mean, “No.” They’re wrong to assume that. I simply mean trust has layers. Read the rest of this entry

Trump’s “Sacrifices”

Posted on

I’ve met Trump before. Well, not literally, but I’ve met the type.

When I was a young man, I took customer service supervisor calls for an online retailer. I regularly got calls from angry customers when there were problems with the delivery of their packages.

I specifically remember one customer. His package had been damaged in shipping (it was a birthday gift for his daughter, but her birthday was over a week away), so he called into our company and immediately proceeded to curse the representative who answered the phone. Within a few minutes, he was transferred to me.

I apologized to him (just as the rep had) and told him I would immediately ship his package back out. I explained that I would send the package with overnight shipping, so it was guaranteed to arrive several days before his daughter’s birthday.

That wasn’t good enough. He tore into me like I had murdered his family.

“You people are morons.”

“This is unacceptable!”

“I’ll never order from you again!”

“Are you a bunch of trained monkeys?”

This customer was a doctor and was probably in his late 40s, early 50s. It always bothered me more when someone who was old enough to know better acted so abusive.

Well, that’s when he said something I’ll never forget.

“This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me!”

This was during the time when my wife’s mother had passed away, so we were in the process of dealing with her loss.

I immediately hit the “mute” button, so he couldn’t hear me, and said, “Give me your life! Give me a life where a late package is the worst thing that has ever happened to you!”

Now… years later… as I hear Trump say that “creating thousands of jobs” (that also happened to make him millions of dollars) is a “sacrifice” that’s comparable to losing your child to a war, it occurs to me…

Trump is that customer.

Trump is the man who calls in to a call center and abuses customer service reps (who make little more than minimum wage) because he has to wait one extra day for his package. Trump is the man who describes that minor inconvenience as “the worst thing that ever happened to me!”

So yeah. I know Trump. I’ve met him many times. Sure, he had a different name and a different background, but it’s the same basic guy.

And this is the guy Americans are considering for the presidency of the United States of America.

This terrifies me.

“Bernie or Bust” People Never Supported Bernie Sanders

The title sums it up pretty well…

If you’re one of the “Bernie or Bust” people, you never supported Bernie in the first place. You’re either a liar or you’re the kid who took the football home with you when the other team scored a touchdown. Read the rest of this entry

Love Does Not Equal Weakness

There’s a significant misconception when it comes to the power of love. So often, the people who argue against love seem to think that love and pacifism are the same thing.

They are not. Read the rest of this entry

Why Hillary Will Keep Her Promises…

I keep hearing the same concern, especially from Bernie supporters:

“I just don’t think Hillary Clinton will follow through on her promises.”

I hear this a lot. And for good reason… Read the rest of this entry

According to Donald J. Trump…

This is a list of actual quotes from Donald Trump. This is not a list of my opinions. I, of course, have an opinion, and the way this list is organized may or may not give you a basic idea of what I think. But, truly, changing your mind is not the reason I’m listing these quotes. I know my opinion won’t affect your voting decision at all, so I’m not going to bother trying to convince you otherwise, either way.

I’ve compiled this list of quotes because, today, I want to hear your opinions. Specifically, I’m interested in hearing your answers to two specific questions.

For Bernie, the Path to Victory is Defeat…

I believe that Bernie Sanders is doing some great things for the American people. I don’t think he’s a visionary at all. I just think he’s sane.

He’s a sane man who has chosen to live with lunatics. His suggestions aren’t far left… they’re not extreme…

They’re reasonable. Read the rest of this entry
