So here we are. The government of the US has “shut down”. This is ridiculous on so many levels that I can’t even begin to choose just one to gripe about. There are so many things about this that are childish, silly, and inane. This will probably end up as a rambling rant (like most of my posts here do, eh?), but I’m going to write it out anyway.
Here’s a post that kept popping up on my Facebook wall today. A lot of people were sharing it. So let’s break it down.
“Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives” – Ronald Reagan
And that’s exactly what the Democrats are trying to do; trying to run the lives of the citizens with ObamaCare and violating the first, second and fourth amendment of every American Citizen.
So when Republicans want to make gay marriage illegal and when they want to tell pharmacies that they can’t sell morning-after pills or other birth control pills, they’re not trying to run people’s lives, right?
From Wikipedia: The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights.
So now Obamacare forces us into a state religion, won’t allow the press to print what they want, won’t allow people to say what they want and won’t allow people to assemble. Got it. That takes care of how the Dems are violating the 1st Amendment.
The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms from infringement. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the United States Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment was based partially on the right to keep and bear arms in English common-law and was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689. This right was described by Sir William Blackstone as an auxiliary right, supporting the natural rights of self-defense, resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concert in defense of the state.
I somehow missed the ObamaCare announcement that said they were going to take away our guns.
The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights that prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. It was adopted in response to the abuse of the writ of assistance, a type of general search warrant issued by the British government and a major source of tension in pre-Revolutionary America. The Fourth Amendment was introduced in Congress in 1789 by James Madison, along with the other amendments in the Bill of Rights, in response to Anti-Federalistobjections to the new Constitution. Congress submitted the amendment to the states on September 28, 1789. By December 15, 1791, the necessary three-quarters of the states had ratified it. On March 1, 1792, Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson announced the adoption of the amendment.
And it also means that they’re going to start illegally searching…our medicine cabinets, I suppose? To make sure that we have our drugs from “Obamacare”?
My point is that tons of this stuff people are spouting is just that: spouting. Nobody is fact checking. Nobody is looking into reason. Nobody is looking at why things are happening the way they are.
A recent poll by CNBC showed that there are still a lot of people who don’t even know what Obamacare is. Only 30 percent of the people polled knew that the official name of Obamacare is the ACA – The Affordable Care Act. And when they were asking people if they supported it? The numbers went down when they called it by the name of “Obamacare” versus “The ACA”.
Folks, those of you who are blindly repeating what you hear on the news – I don’t care if it’s CNBC, CNN, Fox, Al Jazeera, or whatever – you’re allowing yourself to be manipulated. You’re taking the crap they’re feeding you; and like some orphan from a Dickens novel, you’re asking for more.
We live in a world where you can have breaking news and information almost as soon as it happens. Why the hell don’t people use it? Have Americans really become so lazy that they’re willing to just be spoon-fed every little thing? That we have to get our news from soundbites because our attention spans aren’t long enough? It makes me sick to think that the kids of today are going to grow up in a world where they’re taught to do nothing more than repeat what they’re told.
I’ll end this one here. I think I’ve griped enough for one night. You all have a good day. And be sure to write your representatives in DC and tell them how you feel about this whole shutdown thing.
