In my earlier quickie-post, Typical Thursday, I mentioned that the ex-girlfriend of Kim Jong-Un was executed. I wanted to drop a little more info about that before I went to bed.
Her name was Hyon Song-Wol, and she was the singer of the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, one of North Korea’s most popular bands, which plays revolutionary and propaganda songs. Her better-known songs include the numbers “Footsteps of Soldiers”, “I Love Pyongyang”, “She is a Discharged Soldier” and “We are Troops of the Party”. (I am not making those up.)
She had known Kim since they were teenagers, and from what I’m able to find Kim’s dad forced them to stop seeing each other.
She (and several others – I can’t find an exact number, but I know she wasn’t alone) was executed. In public. By a firing squad. Who used machine guns.
Must have been pretty heinous, right? Yeah. She allegedly made a sex tape that was for sale in China. News agency Reuters notes that because some of the performers possessed bibles, the tapes were classified as a political crime (and a capital offense).
Wow. Just… Fucking wow.
A source said that Song-Wol and the others “were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wangjaesan Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on.” And then the members of their families were sent to prison camps.
Well, shit yeah. I mean, when’s the last time you went to a public-execution-by-machine-gun-firing-squad and there wasn’t an orchestra or band there? They just add so much pizzazz to the festive atmosphere, don’t you think?
Anyway. Just know that this happened. This woman was executed publicly for making a sex tape and/or owning a Bible.
In America, that just makes you famous. Right, Kim Kardashian?
